A chiming, uplifting (but dramatic) theme song ushers in opening credits of the Galaxies most familiar news show, the camera pans across the opening credits, glimpses of past stories and finally to the happily chatting scene of the two co-hosts, who seem pleasantly surprised to see you.
"Why hello there!" greets the male "I'm Grethor Kody", and I'm "Herta Besk" chimes in the female, before stating simultaneously "and your watching The Galactic News Network!". After flashing equally brilliant smiles the camera pans to the male.
"In today's news we feature the rising state of the Corellian economy. Despite the continuing problems facing the rest of the Galaxy's economies the Corellian Government has released quarterly reports which show an ever rising boon in industrial and shipping sectors. In fact for the first time in many years the Corellian Government is accepting guest workers into the system in order to meet demands. Many people equate this rise with the successful acquisition of KDY by shipping mogul Dangerous Waves some time ago. The successful merger has seemingly caused an increase of trust in Corellian companies and their many products. We here at The GNN have tracked down a relocated worker at CEC-KDY to see what they have to say about how the merger treated them."
The camera pans to a happy looking family in the Corellian countryside with a Twi-Lek Reporter. "Good evening everyone I'm Ruula'Espa and I'm here just outside Tyrena with the Mastila family, formerly of Kuat. Mr. Mastila how do you feel about the treatment you received during the merger and the current state of things here on Corellia?"
"Well...I have to say they treated us pretty well during the move" Mr. Mastila started off - seemingly a little nervous about being on the news. "They set us up with a residence, transferred all our belongings and made sure my family arrived safely - Everyone is happy here on Corellia, my children have the option to become anything they want and grow up in safety, I really couldn't ask for a better place to live" the man finished and the camera pans back to the happy family.
"Well there you have it folks - looks like Corellia might be in the running for 'most popular place to live' this year!"
The camera draws back until only a spinning image of the Corellian planet is shown before flipping back to the Newscasters. "Well its certainly nice to see families given a fresh new start" states Herta Besk with a smile. "Indeed Herta, unfortunately things don't look so happy in the Galactic Alliance, reports indicate a general uproar in the Senate regarding Chief of State Aurelian Makilles' newest bill proposal which is pushing for increased taxes on goods imported from outside the Galactic Alliance. This threatens many outside economies, and has the potential to sour the mood against the GA in the wake of an already unpopular, but growing, anti-Force movement.
"However, despite economic sanctions against products, the Corellian government is unconcerned. When questioned about the new proposal, officials with the Corellian Ministry of International Trade & Industry had this to say..."
The camera feed switches to a middle-aged Corellian wearing a black suit and red tie, looking across his dark mahogany desk at the reporter, who is sitting offscreen. A caption identifies the man as Bruno Farfallas, Chief of the International Trade Division of CMITI.
"This sort of proposal would normally have the effect that Corellian companies would pass on the extra cost of trade tariffs to customers in the Galactic Alliance. However, with the recent acquisition of KDY and the New Automation Program (NAP) pioneered by the Corellian Engineering Corp., we have actually been able to reduce costs for many different sectors in the Corellian economy. While ill-advised and damaging not only to galactic commerce but diplomatic relations, CoS Makilles' proposal will only have the effect that prices for Corellian products return to their pre-KDY, pre-NAP levels. While this doesn't increase our GDP, it will keep it steady, and moreover gives us the opportunity to better integrate the guest worker program into our economic plans. In a way, CoS Makilles is doing us a favor, because the minute this tariff is dropped, Corellia will be poised to dominate many sectors."
