The General Rules are just that. They deal with a multitude of different facets, from dueling to thread creation, but don't go into a lot of detail. There are other rule subsections that have added detail on certain topics (especially dueling!), but the General Rules give you a solid overview. If some of these rules overlap with The Ground Rules, then you KNOW they must be important.
BICAYC Rule
The Administration of the Realm retains the right to all powers over the legendary BICAYC ("Because I Can And You Can't") ruling. Should the situation ever require or benefit from the revision, bending or breaking of a rule or rules, then it can, may and will happen. The BICAYC is wielded solely by the Lord Protector (i.e. Head Administrator), but may also be enforced upon the populace by the vote of at least two Lesser Knights (Global Moderators and Moderators).
No BICAYC ruling shall be instituted unless deemed necessary and/or proper and neither the Administrator or Moderators may use it for own personal gain, unless such is necessary for an overall, approved storyline.
Should a member or members of the Roleplaying community discover that a BICAYC ruling is in anyway disruptive or damaging to Roleplaying, that member or members shall open discussion in the OOC Game forum. A lament in any other forum will automatically be deleted, without consideration! It will then be the task of the Administration to hear out this plea. They may comment on it as they see fit, but no plea for repeal guarantees the elimination of a ruling. However, the community IS entitled to an explanation of such a ruling, unless such a ruling must be kept closely guarded for Adminisration-approved storylines, private matters or any other reason deemed necessary.
Managerial Power
Management is vested with the power to declare any RPer dead in the case of a dispute. Furthermore, they may also intervene in a case where godmodding/powerplaying has become a problem, either in a defensive or offensive manner. To declare an RPer dead, it requires the vote of either the Head Moderator or a majority of the Assistant Moderators at the time. After being declared dead, an RPer is obligated to obey the ruling and post their death scene. If the affected RPer wishes to dispute the ruling, they may PM an administrator or global administrator. PMing the current Head Administrator is a good way to earn her/his ire, so follow the established chain of command.
Note: Management also reserves the right to declare dead any member that openly quits FSCRP, so be careful how you say your goodbyes. This is not out of spite, but simply effects good housekeeping of the membership list.
Furthermore, Management’s powers extend to settling disputes other than the death of an RPer. For example, in the case of an intrusion into a secure facility by one RPer where certain rules were possibly broken, a claim can be issued in the OOC Game forum, which will then be reviewed.
No Godmodding
There is absolutely no Godmodding (i.e. Powerplaying) when in a duel. This includes RPer vs. RPer, Fleet Battles, Land-based Military Attacks, etc.
Godmodding may be defined as several things, and Management reserves the right to make a ruling on what does and does not constitute Godmodding. Some obvious examples would include:
a) Repeatedly dodging attacks without further elaboration (ala *Smith dodges all the attacks*). Not taking any damage whatsoever also counts. Not even the best of the best are invincible.
b) Controlling the opposing character/units in your posts, or stating damage for them. For example *Smith stabs the Jedi through the heart with his lightsaber* is an illegal post. What it SHOULD read is *Smith ATTEMPTS to stab the Jedi through the heart with his lightsaber*.
c) Not allowing your opponent a chance to respond in kind. Example, if your character is ambushed in a bar, you cannot simply dash out the door in the first post. You must defend against any attacks, and remain for at least one post so that your enemy may attempt to block your path.
Again, Godmodding may come in many forms, and any dispute will be settled by Management. However, it is HEAVILY SUGGESTED that RPers attempt to handle disputes within duels themselves; either attempting to roll with minor instances of powerplaying, or pointing out the problems in the opponent’s post and thus rewording a post. Play responsibly, play realistically. If any dispute should arise, post it in the OOC Game forum, and a Moderator will assist both/all parties.
This isn't where I parked my car!
Players should be wary about affecting other characters or their storylines without expressed permission. Simply put, no one likes their story corrupted by someone who feels like butting in, so be careful with whom you RP and when you RP with them. For example, if Player A and Player B are fighting a planned duel, one which Player B is scripted to lose, then Player C may not enter the fight and sway the tide of battle for Player B.
To quote a wise pirate, this rule isn’t really a law, more like a guideline. It is common courtesy not to interfere with others, yet if an RPer feels like stirring things up, they may, but only if they have tangible reasons for doing so. For example, if a Sith character is harassing and\or attacking a member of the Galactic Alliance and Player C is a Jedi in the area of the confrontation, then his character may have good reason to intervene. If two RPers would like others to not interfere in their play, then a quick OOC comment will resolve the situation.
Simply put, Management can do little to prevent RPers from entering other people's storylines. However, if a dispute arises, it is a valid reason to invoke grievances in the OOC Game forum. Always ask before interfering.
Referral to Dueling Rules
All fighting (from hand-to-hand to space combat) will be done according to the Dueling Rules, as well as General Rules affecting duels. The most important thing for you to remember is DON’T POWERPLAY.
Technology and Fleets
New technology (i.e. Player-invented or non-canon), be it ships weapons or otherwise, is subject to Management review. This includes anything from new ships to personal weapons and so on. Not all new technology will be reviewed, and no approval is needed for its use. However, if a member of Management decides that the technology in question is too extraordinary, impossible or imbalanced in the Star Wars universe, then a thread will be created in the OOC Game forum for discussion. It will then require at least two members of Management to "veto" the new technology, after much deliberation and feedback from its inventor. Also, RPers that dispute the use of a certain technical achievement may similarly create a thread in the OOC Game forum, after which Management will attend to it as soon as possible.
The above stated rule is also relevant to fleets and their respective sizes. If someone’s fleet gets out of hand, Management will step it. Make sure to keep it realistic, and proportional to the size and influence of the faction you or your group controls. Also, be sure you have a shipyard or two, unless you are exclusively buying all of your ships. Also, the use of Super Heavy class ships (between Super Star Destroyer and Eclipse Star Destroy) will be closely observed…
Edit (10/5/2009): Since most active factions have kindly posted their fleets in the Fleet section under RP Information without Management's prompting, it has been decided that factions should post the following if desiring the use of a fleet:
1) Fleet size and make-up
2) Data on the various types of ships
3) Any shipyards in the faction's possession, including their location and berth size.
Fleets must be approved by a member of the Management before seeing major use, though it is permissible to refer to individual ships or small groups for story purposes before final approval.
Reference to Existing Events/Characters
Try not to refer to existing STAR WARS events or characters as part of your or any other character's "history". It's very confining and it messes with the time frame, as FSCRP takes place 300 years or so after the events of the last book of the New Jedi Order series. Note that this means any events taking place AFTER the events of NJO are invalidated, as FSC is in an alternate timeline.
Also there will be no claiming any blood relationship to existing SW or SW EU characters. Not their daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, cousins, or grandkids. Similar or identical names are permissible, but no direct bloodline. Neither can you claim to be the student of a known SW or SW EU character. Please don’t make us tell you on the boards that you have to change your character’s bio. You MAY refer to these characters as much as you’d like in the historical record, however. Just remember that Luke Skywalker is an old dead guy, like Teddy Roosevelt, and should be treated accordingly (though Teddy was loads more entertaining than the farm boy).
Maturity Level & Ban on Fandom Crossovers
Please limit the roleplay fandom to STAR WARS only. Its fine if you want to take certain elements from other science fiction, fantasy, fiction or even non-fiction sources. However, FSCRP functions largely on the canon presented by the Star Wars universe, except in the case of technology, where some cross-overs may be allowed if they are realistic. Again, it is all subject to review by Management. If you are unsure about something, simply post it in the OOC Help forum.
Note: Basically, the second Management sees something like Darth Vegeta (whose power level is irrationally large, possibly greater than 9000), we’ll be having a word with you.
Also, these forums have an official maturity ranking of Mature (in ESRB terms). This means that it may contain some adult content, such as blood/gore and sexual promiscuity. It is HIGHLY ADVISED that any posts made in this manner are done with a certain degree of tact and/or taste. This means that scenes (especially involving coitus) should not be explicitly detailed in all their bodily glory. Follow Alfred Hitchcock’s cinematic style for building suspense: Show less, and let the audience fill in all the details.
Note: Swearing is something we all do, but as in anything, moderation is required. Your character can swear when appropriate, but as soon as it happen OOC or too graphically in IC, Management will bring its vengeful BanhammerTM upon you. Furthermore, it is advised that since this is the Star Wars Universe, the appropriate terms should be applied (i.e. “Sithspawn”).
Superweapons and Mass Destruction (aka The Masako Gambit Rule)
No superlaser type weapons. All ESSDs, Death Stars, and other ships that have these weapons in their stats will be considered "de-gunned" of these weapons. Let me say that again. NO SUPER LASERS! Why? Because it seriously upsets the balance of power, and leads to more dispute than RPing.
Other Weapons of Mass Destruction are also prohibited (this includes supernova-inducing weapons, nanomachine swarms, bioengineered plagues, etc.).
Management reserves the right to categorize something as a superweapon. The creator or user of said weapon is entitled to a detailed explanation of why whatever it is constitutes a superweapon. When a weapon is found illegal, it must be turned in to the nearest recycling plant, where it will be reprocessed into ball bearings and kitchen utensils.
In conjunction with banning WMDs which could destroy a planet, we also prevail to the general Rping public to refrain from other acts which would cause similar amounts of destruction such as....ramming a Star Destroyer into a bar in order to kill one person (aka the Masako Gambit). This doesn't mean that such things are not possible, simply that Management will carefully and thoroughly scrutinize something of this ilk. For example, if an Imperial Fleet attacks a facility on a certain planet and decides to glass the entire thing with an orbital bombardment, that would have a higher chance of being accepted. On the other hand, scenarios as the previously mentioned one (single Star Destroyer planetfall) will have less of a chance, unless the RPer can prove where he got the Star Destroyer in the first place, among other things.
So, to recap, mass destruction IS allowed, but must be rationally and realistically executed. As always, Management is watching. If any RPers feel they are affected unfairly by such an event, please post in the OOC Game forum.
Note: Because superweapons may play an integral part of a storyline, players may petition Management for the power to build and operate their superweapon. For a petition, all available technical data must be posted, as well as the function the superweapon plays in the storyline. Simply put, building world-conquering starships for the sake of Cold War-era deterrence not only detracts from the RPing experience, but also has the potential to cause a whole mess of other problems.
Socks & NPCs
A sock is any character you’ve created alongside your main character(s) that you use more in a supporting role. They are not NPCs, but they aren’t necessarily full player characters either. These are allowed as long as they are used responsibly. How will we know if you are using your sock(s) irresponsibly? Try us and find out.
RPers MAY use NPCs for whatever purpose. However, they must be in a position (either a faction, species, etc.) that would allow them the use of the NPCs in the first place. Jedi generally do not command storm troopers, and Vong have problems taking orders from droids.
Abuse of NPCs will be dealt with by Management.
Cortosis, Ysalamiri, and Mando Iron….OH MY!
Items such as cortosis, mandolorian iron and ysalamiri are very rare, and should only be used on a limited basis. While some factions possess the means and finances to mass produce/refine/harvest such things, they will still be scrutinized by the mods. For these items to be procured, a storyline is required to obtain them. You can't suddenly show up with all your warriors equipped with an impenetrable metal.
Note: Ysalamiri require specialized living environments that copy their native home of Myrkr if they are to survive elsewhere. Without them they do nothing but sit and rot, thus eliminating the benefit of a 5 diameter bubble of “Force-lessness.” Additionally, you have to have access to the planet of Myrkr, which is currently controlled by the DJO and the Corellian Admiralty.
Addendum: Management may add any material/entity to the list of limited basis use items as it sees fit. Those opposed may petition either in OOC Game, or through a PM.
Character names
In choosing a name for your character, please make sure it’s an actual Star Wars name. Jedigirl868 is not acceptable, and neither is SuperSaiyanVader.
Signatures
Signatures are allowed on these boards. However, keep pictures within a reasonable limit, and any text should not overpower your posts. A line or two should be enough. If your sig becomes annoying, the Management may have a word with you.
You signature must also relate to your character. Random images that have nothing to do with the character take away from the In-Character experience.
Also, if either your character or signature images are too risqué or outright pornographic, you will be banned (depending on the degree of infraction).
Character Creation
When creating a character for the first time, take a moment to consider your character’s physical characteristics, their backstory, their level of education, and the ramifications of their faction and/or species. The idea is to play your character realistically, within the framework of the Star Wars universe. Most new RPers start out with a human character, since it’s the easiest to play. However, anyone is welcome to play any number of species, droids, or even non-sentients.[glow=red,2,300]We only ask that you do so realistically.[/glow]
If players choose to create a character belonging to a faction (Imperial, Yuuzhan Vong, Chiss, etc.), they should research said factions or races enough to play the character believably. For example, most Vong will not tolerate any technology whatsoever, and they certainly don't enjoy things like swing dances or silly hats. The best place for Star Wars data is Wookiepedia.
Any new member’s character has a 14 day grace period in which they can start learning the ropes of RPing. During this time, they cannot be killed (or ruled as “dead” by Management). This is only for new members, NOT socks. New players will also have some added consideration for any missteps they make during their RPing, whether they breach certain rules, or whether it’s simply bad internet etiquette (aka web-iquette). However, if new members REFUSE to be taught and continue to fail miserably, they will be dealt with as any full member would be.
Storyline Pausing
For combat or non-combat RPing, it is considered bad form to leave other RPers in your party hanging because of personal matters. While emergencies DO happen, please remember to at least post something along the lines of “Not gonna be around for a week” so that the individuals RPing with you can pause the storyline you are collectively developing.
When a storyline is PAUSED, the characters in it may go about other business. They aren’t STUCK in the paused storyline anymore. This is ONLY acceptable when the storyline has been paused. Under no other circumstances can a character be in two places at once.
Under no circumstances may a character hold another captive, then fail to post for a week to keep the other person captive and out of the picture. Abuses should be reported to moderators, who will then grant the captive a chance to escape.
Planning, Planning, Planning
Any major battle, be it ground warfare, space combat or a duel between two powerful opponents, should have SOME level of planning going on in the background between the parties doing the fighting. A background dialogue allows players to clear up any misunderstandings, and may help the narrative flow a bit smoother.
Character Deaths and Hit & Run Tactics
Your character is relatively well protected against sudden death. Generally, your character can’t die unless you allow it. However, if another RPer comes up with a significantly refined and brilliant plan to kill you, and implements it successfully, a Moderator may ask you to die accordingly. However, if you are smart enough, you won’t fall into the traps others set for you, and a little imagination is all you need to get out of sticky situations.
Your equipment and personal items, however, are not so lucky. They have no protection, and anyone that plays out a competent and well-written attack will successfully destroy your ship(s), building(s), base(s), etc. Of course, you can always attempt to defend these, and you will be successful in most cases, unless there is a critical flaw in your defenses. Such attacks are considered “hit & run” attacks. The objective is to do damage to an opponent’s resources/infrastructure, not to occupy or outright destroy. Occupation and outright destruction require more planning, and the two (or more) RPers should work together in this regard.
Thus, like modern warfare, it is more efficient for the aggressor to play out protracted insurgencies than open warfare. Naturally, the attackers in these scenarios will be held to a high standard for RPing. They should consider all aspects of such an attack, to include weapons/explosives procurement, funding, hiring, general logistics and so forth.
Faction & Personal Defenses rules
Each faction is responsible for developing and posting the defenses of their various installations. They are also responsible for devising the rules under which their members will be governed. Thus, the Jedi may have certain rules governing personal associations, while Imperials have limitations on information dissemination, etc. Please post both the defenses and rules for your faction in your respective faction forums.
RPers may attempt to gain access to restricted areas, using the posted defenses as a guideline. They must respond realistically to these defenses, and attempt to discover their weaknesses. Naturally, this is some added incentive for groups to make sure their defense systems are thorough. Furthermore, any sort of invader does not necessarily have full knowledge of a faction's defenses, unless they have RPed a side story to acquire plans or blueprints.
[glow=red,2,300]Remember, what YOU know as a player isn't necessarily the same as what your character knows.[/glow]
Faction Rules
If a faction has accrued enough members, it is generally advisable for that faction to come up with a set of rules for governing their memberships. For example, the Jedi may be interested in structuring a progression for new members (Padawan to Jedi Knight to Master), or what have you.
Depending on the leadership style of the faction (it can be anything from a board of trustees to a dictatorship), the leader(s) of the group are responsible for coming up with a rule set, which will then be posted in that faction sub-board.
All faction rules require prior approval from the Management, to ensure that they do not conflict with established, board-wide rules.
Edit: Added 9/16/2010
Time travel
Time travel is generally a literary tool used by hack writers (for an example, watch “Heroes”). It’s not only a severe cop-out, but also produces tons of plot holes, and gives the user an unfair advantage over other players. Thus, NO TIME TRAVEL!
The only exceptions are chronological anomalies associated with natural formations, such as black holes. Also, major storylines, if approved, may make use of time travel.
New Thread Creation
Before creating a new thread, look through other available threads to see whether they will suit your purpose. If they do not, and you go on to create a new thread, please put some effort into detailing the thread’s location and characteristics, so other player’s have something to go on. If it is a planet, research relevant information and present it concisely, but with enough depth.
Remember, the more cluttered things get, the harder it is to find things.
Edit (9/16/2010): It is suggested to look at similar, already established threads before posting a new one, to give you an idea of the format your first post should be in.
It is required that all threads, in some way, detail where they are and what faction they belong to, if this is not already readily apparent.
Management reserves the right to reorganize or delete threads as is necessary to streamline the boards. Deletion will always be the last option, especially if the thread in question has seen a lot of traffic (which is, more or less, our history).
Mirror/Mirror
Your character CANNOT be two places at once. The only exception to this rule is in the event of paused storylines. Should your character be in a paused storyline, but you are tired of waiting and would like to pursue a different storyline in the meantime, you may have your character do so. It is then assumed that the new storyline you are pursuing happened at some other point in time from the paused storyline.
It is HIGHLY recommended that you only make use of this exception to pass the time. Being in engaged in one major paused storyline, then going on to do another major one, is going to provide a lot of headaches. Basically, the most you should do with this exception is chat with folks in one of the more social threads (like the CCC).
Edit: Added 9/16/2010
Responsibility of Information
RPers are responsible for knowing and abiding by the rules. “I didn’t know” is not a legitimate excuse.

The Administration of the Realm retains the right to all powers over the legendary BICAYC ("Because I Can And You Can't") ruling.

Responsibility of Information
RPers are responsible for knowing and abiding by the rules. “I didn’t know” is not a legitimate excuse.
