Jet glanced away from Taaru in the pretense of looking out the window and out over the mansions estate as soon as he began spouting off such official terms. Fingers drummed against the arm of the chair as she considered this information. She was aware of the High Council..and of course the Allience she had with them - which she admitted was mostly for Taaru, the only Thruvaran she had personal contact with.
She liked it that way, Jet disliked becoming entangled in other groups personal affairs they often created a mydrid of tangled webs in relation to other groups...which hindered her dealing with them at a later date. It was better to keep everyone at an arm's length and yet keep friendly pretenses with those she either needed or currently agreed with.
She was also aware of the pressure they put on Taaru from time to time - not by his words which were closely guarded on such subjects - as they should be, as she herself demanded of her own group The Kabal - but by his actions and moods from time to time.
Thusly she was aware that his High Council was as manipulative as they were helpful, just as she was..just as all groups were. It was necessary....and it was dangerous. On the other hand what they would face was unknown and in that regard the extra help would be most welcome.
Her gaze returned to Taaru, her expression now deadly serious the former informal nature of the conversation now gone.
"And you are prepared to personally vouch for these warriors? To give your word as to my ability to trust them...both on my ship and on any possible battlefield?"

Taaru bridled in offense, but only because, deep down, he wasn't absolutely sure. He knew he could trust Miko, who would inevitably be one of the individuals the council would send. But his dealings with the High Council and with other Thruvarans wasn't always a Norman Rockwell painting. His missions with the Tears had shown as much, and he had been zealously eager to leave that part of his life behind, where it could be buried and forgotten like so much of Thruvaran history.
He wasn't quite sure how to respond to Jet's challenge. Thruvaran society was different from Corellian. By asking Taaru this question, she wasn't simply getting an answer. She was charging him to action in the vent of a breach of trust, which may require Taaru to... minister to one of his kind. Taaru didn't know what the Council was up to....but his instincts told him that it wasn't wholly altruistic.
He settled for the truth: "I cannot give you my word, as I do not personally know everyone they vill send. I can vouch for their fighting prowess, in all disciplines, and I can tell you that they are invaluable in every sort of dire situation."
"But they are my countrymen. For them to betray you, they vould betray me, and Thruvaran custom on this issue is stricter than most societies. There vouldn't be a court, no judges or jury....."

Her eyes snapped up to Taaru as he began his answer. These warriors were not to be 100% trusted, but with the threat of no judge and no jury over their heads, at least they were slightly trustworthy.
Her fingers strummed against the backs of her hands and she sighed lightly. She needed to learn to fight, or at least defend herself for sure now. If she would have to go up against a warrior, she needed at least SOMETHING to help her.
She looked down at Collin, who beeped softly in response.

"Only an executioner..."
Jet whispered, in this sense the Kabal and Thruvarans were somewhat similar, the drumming of her fingers ceased as quickly as it started. It was a rule drummed so far into her skull that it would be impossible to displace, and she knew without a doubt that Grifter whom had loved her like a daughter would have killed her if she'd broken ths rule. You simply do not betray your comrades...ever.
But then it was doubtful Taaru would be issuing all the orders in this case and she was well aware of another rule not broken...the needs of many outweight those of a few. Sometimes such rules contradicted one another. She was quite certain that Taaru was a valuble asset to this high council..and though she doubted they would toss him away easily there were always situations where such a sacrifice was not unheard of. She would need to be vigilent...not only for her sake, but perhaps for his as well.
"I'm glad you are honest with me on this fact, it would have been very bad if you'd spoken for them and your word had proven false. There will be limitations...they will not be allowed near ShadowChaser, she holds to many secrets. How many do they wish to send? no more then equal to my own soldiers will be acceptable. I'll not be outnumbered on my own vessel"

Hepicked up on Avery's apprehension at this sort of talk. Amidst warriors and fallen knights, a scholar was completely out of place. The truism was a false one: Brains rarely ever beat brawn.
"The Council proposes to send 12 Reiter, enough to cover a squadron of StarVipers, and to man the equivalent of Mark VI suits, as necessary. Each of them has expertise in various field. Miko Reglia, who you have met before, ees excellent cryptologist, and can assist Avery in translation of the Ancient's math-based language.
As for limitations, the High Council is aware of your preferred security measures. Each has been ordered to follow the commanding officer's orders, and in the absence of the CO, my orders. They only request that the Thruvarans be quartered together, as is our custom."

A fellow scholar- and a crytologist at that. Avery could have sworn she felt her heart leap. There was someone maybe potentially like her, and therefore there was a possibility for companionship. A smile tugged at the corners of her lips and she felt herself becoming a little more at ease. 15, that's not so bad, especially if Jet's people would outnumber them, or at least be at the same number.

Twelve..twelve Jet thought was an acceptable number, though a formidable group it was not a high enough number to cause her undue worry...yet high enough to keep her from deciding to try and space them once in flight. The High Council were quite savy.
"I recall Miko, he was rather amusing if I remember right, its no problem for them to be quartered together."
On the contrary Jet thought to herself it would be beneficial to do so if she had to take action against them its always nice to have them gathered in one convinient location, of course she was getting ahead of herself it was quite possible there would be no trouble...and these were Taaru's countrymen...jet would be the first to admit she was paranoid about such things. But she didn't wish to insult Taaru by placing such suspicion in his men either.
"I don't intend to sequester your people aboard the ship..they will be free to come and go as they please as long as they obey the rules and play nicely with the others. Twelve I can deal with"

Taaru grinned. His report to the council wouldn't have to be apologetic. Considering the 12 were already on Corellia, it would also save them a flight back to the migrant fleet.
"Be warned....they say that the things 12 Thruvarans can get up to when they celebrate becomes the substance of legends. You may want to put extra soundproofing between their quarters and yours, if you intend to get any sleep."

Her brows rose as she looked to Jet. She could only imagine what kind of celebrations these people got up to. Whiskey was no doubt a large part of that celebration.
"When do you think we could get all this together and head out?"

Jet furrowed her brow at Taaru's grin, just to let him know she was rather displeased with this turn of events. But she would deal with it as necessary...and ensure she had good people posted in specific locations, good dependable Dangerous Waves people.
"I'll be bunking in ShadowChaser, which will leave a state room open that I'm sure Avery would enjoy"
Except when aboard Glacier her flagship Jet always slept in the ShadowChaser, the vessel had everything she needed and she was comfortable there, the sounds of the hangers never bothered her - due in part to the soundproofing Taaru had mentioned earlier.
"Besides you do recall I lived in the CCC before The Gates, I almost miss loud celebrations sometimes"
She cast a hand towards the paper describing her captain pick which Taaru had abandoned earlier in lieu of garnering her agreement to bringing along the Thuvarans.
"I imagine we can leave as soon as Taaru assures himself I've choosen a competent captain...and the rest of the designated crew gathers most of them are already on planet or in the Corellia system, the few who are still on thier way will arrive within the next few days. By that time I would think most everything else will be taken care of"
She paused.
"As far as the common citizen is concerned I'm not leaving with you...and hopefully that ruse will keep others at bay long enough for me to actually return, Amber, Sagara and Devlin will be handling things and carrying out actions that I normally would. Though the Galaxy is quiet currently...I'm hoping this charade will keep someone from popping out of the woodwork while I'm away. It would be most agrivating to return and have to kill an upsurper."

Taaru took the queue Jet, so sarcastically delivered, and began glancing through the personal file of the captain Jet had chosen for the expedition ship.
Service in the 2nd fleet for three years on a frigate, experience in the merchant marine beforehand, graduate of the the Corellian OCS.....several commendations, notably for cool crisis managment in an incident with a critical reactor leak, solid psychological profile and background checks all clear out....
Taaru was suitably impressed. Then he flipped back to the front page and read the word under the "Species" heading.
He looked back at Jet, then back at the file, flipping forward to a picture of Jet's proposed captain.
Again, he fixed Jet with an incredulous state: "You cannot be serious...."

Avery had been looking out the window as Jet and Taaru discussed the plan. She looked as if she wasn't paying attention, but her mind was racing to pull together the new information and see a formal plan in order. Her eyes flicked up to Taaru, noting the file in his hands.
"What's wrong?"

"I am always serious Taaru...most espechially in matter such as this."
Jet stated with an arched brow, standing she went to look down at the file over Taaru's shoulder, reaching out to twist the photo and show it to Avery. A twi'Lek female was portrayed in glossy pigment.
"Aralie is very good at what she does, and as I said...I can't bring my best - they are needed here"
Letting the photo fall back into its proper place she kept her position behind Taaru's chair and tapped the reference list at the very bottom.
"Function my friend...always trumps form."

A tiny, inbred, animalistic part of him was very upset. It was the same part of the Thruvaran cultural consciousness that had evolved under the selective pressures of a harsh, high-gravity world being continually attacked by Kuati endeavors to bring Thruvar back under its aegis during the reign of the Old Republic. The same part of his racial history that had thought eugenics a good idea at the time...
"You would trust a mission of such vital importance as this to......to.....," only the Thruvaran word could suffice, but he wouldn't dare utter it in pilot company, even if neither of them could understand his language. Instead, he simply settled for "non-human?"
Nearly three generations of warfare and fighting other sentient species to establish their homeworld had taught Thruvarans two important lessons. First, never trust anyone. Second, if you have to trust someone, make sure they at least share some degree of cultural similitude.
Thruvarans got along with Mandalorians (and famously so, considering the cultural exchange between the two had been going on for centuries). They also, recently, got along fairly well with the Corellians.
They didn't get along with non-human sentients, a supposed ethical fault most Thruvarans were unapologetic about.

Avery didn't see the problem.
"For a man of your intellect, you think you'd be past these sort of things and look at the person for their talent."
She turned slightly and layed back on the couch, pulling her feet up to the other side so she was fully stretched out across the cushions.
"I think Jet knows what she's doing. I trust the decision she made."
