Hours of work later, and she'd proudly sent off a comm message so that she could show off her handiwork.
Of course, that was really only sort of an elaborate cover for what she was really comming for. She headed back down towards the hallway outside the Den, after cleaning off all the paint, etc. and changing into something not-splattered.
Going to talk to Teagan shouldn’t feel so much like stepping into a mine field, she thought to herself with a wince. But that was her own fault, really… In every way.
As the door to the hall she needed whooshed open in front of her, the sound seemed to cause her stomach to leap into her throat. Hold it together, she told herself, taking a few calming breaths. A Jedi does not know fear.
When she opened her eyes again and saw him waiting there already, back towards her, all that returned Jedi calm disappeared again instantly. Yeah, right. No fear at all, she thought to herself somewhat bitterly, and released a long breath.
"Teagan?" she finally said, when she found her voice.

Teagan had been standing outside the door to the Viper's Den preparing himself to walk in and face Daphne when the door behind him opened. He closed his eyes and scolded himself inwardly for being on time. His eyes shot back open when Daphne called his name and he took a deep breath before turning to face her.
"Uh," was all Teagan was able to muster when he first saw her. He had been spending so much of his spare time just imagining what he would say to her when they finally met, but now it all left him. "Hi."

"Hi," Daphne said. There was this whole awkward moment where she wondered if she could hug him or move forward at all or whether they were both going to be stuck there in the same spots for the rest of eternity.
She decided to avoid the latter by gesturing at the door. "I have a surprise!"
Instantly, Daphne felt like an idiot. She probably should have opened with 'how's it going' or 'so anything new?' or 'it's nice to see you'.
"It's in there," was what she said instead. She at least flashed him a bright don't hate me hopeful smile to make up for skipping that stuff.

"Oh," he said, his mind still drawing a blank. He rubbed his arm with his hand as if warming it and continuously shifted his weight back and forth. Gone was the pristine Jedi Knight appearance he had just minutes before replaced by a fidgeting boy. "What is it?"

Now that she had something solid to grasp onto, the excitement began to help her overcome her nerves. She moved towards the door, grabbing him by the elbow and tugging him along.
"Well, it wouldn't be a surprise if I answered, now would it?" she asked, feigning exasperation. The door zoomed open, and they found themselves standing in the entranceway of the barely recognizable Viper's lounge.
One entire wall was covered with a somewhat abstract mural of cosmos and planets, in electric shades of paint. Another wall housed a row of X-wings painted in identical positions, with different symbols beneath them. There was a deep carpet laid around the bar area, crimson red. Hard to miss, in the center of the room, stood a giant fish tank, in which swam a variety of different species, in bright, vibrant colors. A little mini replica of the Jedi Temple was nestled at the bottom, inside of which hid an exotic silver striped fish.
On the ceiling, an epic space battle was replicated, in moving images that were dizzying to watch for too long.
Daphne stared over it with a grin. The sheer number of Padawans she'd had to charm into helping her out to do this so quickly was staggering, but they had all loved pitching in, and she knew it was worth it.

Teagan almost fell to the floor when Daphne suddenly pulled him along. He straightened up when they were inside the Den and almost took a step back as the colors and decor assaulted his eyes. He blinked a few times before looking around the room, his jaw hanging slightly. "How did you," he started but stopped himself with a shake of his head. "It's better I don't ask. I'll just let myself continue to think you're capable of amazing things." He smiled briefly at her before looking to the ground a bit sheepishly.
Lifting his head up again Teagan focused his gaze on Daphne's face as she looked at the ceiling. He even went as far as to raise his hand up to the small of her back as if to hold her, but thought better of it and put his hand back down at his side before making contact. He allowed his gaze to follow Daphne's to the ceiling. "Did you base this off of any battle in particular?"

"A couple actually, it's sort of a mishmash. Took the most exciting parts out of vids, et cetera..." she said, happily heading over to the other wall, and pointing out the strip of X-wings. "And these are for our fallen comrades. All these little symbols show... how they died and... how many battles they were in with the Vipers..." Of course, the symbols probably only made sense to her, but she figured she could teach everybody. "
She turned back to him, with a larger smile. "You really think it's amazing?"

Teagan followed Daphne over to the wall and peered over her shoulder at the ships and symbols before nudging her playfully. "Something like that," he said playfully, yet inside he was amazed that he was able to bring himself to touch her. He ran his fingertips across some of the symbols, which had dried, as he took a few steps away. He halted in front of a certain symbol and kept one finger pressing against it as he looked to Daphne. "Nate?"

Her smile was tinged with a bit of sadness as she nodded. "Hey, you figured out the system."
Daphne chewed on her lip a bit. "You think it's a good thing, right, to have them here to remind us? I don't want it to just be a constant reminder to Mercy or her kid... "She turned her head to look at him. "You don't think she'd see it that way do you? Not too late to paint over it..."

Teagan shook his head, letting his hand drift back to his side. "Leave it," he said, still taking in the wall. "Mercy and Ranoc will like it a lot. If they don't well, I'll protect you." He smiled at her. "Although Ranoc's got a bit of a mouth on him."

"Sticks and stones will break my bones, but mouthy little boys will never hurt me," Daphne grinned. "...Mercy on the other hand, she could probably kick my butt," she added with a wink.

"That's where I come in," he said jokingly as he put his fists on his hips and raised his chin. "You take the little one while I'll take the streaky pink one."
Letting his hands drop down to his sides Teagan looked around for a moment, having suddenly lost the small bit of confidence he had been building. "I guess I'll, uh, go get Mercy and Ranoc so you can show them," he said avoiding eye contact. "I just left them so I can catch them quickly."

"No, wait!" Daphne said, the words spilling out quickly as she grabbed his arm again. "I mean, can't we uh. Talk? For just a minute?" That sounded terribly weak, even to her, so she gave him an encouraging smile. "I mean... it's just been a very long time since we've talked."

Teagan looked at Daphne's hand as she grabbed him before bringing his eyes to hers. He swallowed roughly and mustered a nod. "Okay."

Daphne's eyes flicked down. "Look, I really ... have to say I'm sorry. I've been sort of flightier than usual, since..." She waved a hand as if that would cover it. "You know. So. I'm sorry."
She looked back up, hoping that he wouldn't be staring at her with that same guarded expression, but figuring he would. It was her fault it was there anyways.
