When Daphne's eyes came back to Teagan's he started to look everywhere but her eyes. "It's ok," he croaked. "I, uh, could've tried harder so I'm sorry too."
Looking down Teagan took a step back and cleared his throat. "I shouldn't have put you in a position like that. You deserve better than that."

Daphne's heart sank a little bit as he took the blame back on himself. Of course he would play the hero. She reached a hand up to his cheek, so that he'd look back at her, brushing it very gently with her fingertips.
"Hey. You didn't put me in any position. I sort of hurtled myself headlong into exactly where I ended up, because, obviously, that's where I wanted to be."

Teagan's eyes closed briefly when Daphne touched his cheek but he did look back into her eyes. "But," he began searching her eyes for something. "What about Cole?" He looked away again and his jaw muscles worked before he continued. "I know you haven't heard from him, but still."

Even hearing his name sent warning shivers down Daphne's spine. She remembered all those weird dreams, those terrible thoughts... and this time she couldn't hold Teagan's gaze, looking at the floor instead.
"I tried to get in touch with him. Still nothing. I think..." she trailed off.

Now it was Teagan's turn to take charge. He watched Daphne look down for a moment before lightly taking a hold of her upper arm. "Is there anything I can do to help? Maybe I could find him." It took everything he had but he was able to hide how much it pained him to suggest that. "I just want you to be happy."

Daphne's eyes shot back to his, reading the sincerity there. He honestly would do that for her, and she couldn't help but hope it wasn't because he regretted what had happened between them.
"Teagan, I don't know if I could ask that of you, and I don't know if... if he is alive, if he even wants me to find him. But I can't help but be worried that something's happened to him, and that I'm sitting here doing nothing about it. "
And what was worst of all was that she didn't know how she felt about Cole anymore, didn't really know anything other than she felt this intense strand of loyalty to him, and every word she wanted to say to Teagan to keep him assured that her heart had shifted positions stuck in her throat and burned there like a guilty brand.
She hoped that he could see it, somehow, the way she could sense his conflict.

"I'll do whatever it takes Daphne," he said, his voice gaining a little strength. "Too many people are missing from our lives right now. Cole, Chase, Rico, Thera and for a little while there," he paused for a moment and brought his hand to the side of her face. "You."

Daphne swallowed down the lump in her throat when he touched her cheek.
"So like you. Always in hero mode." Her hand came up and covered his. "You aren't going to lose me, you know. Nobody is," she said quickly. "I'm too stubborn for that."

Goosebumps covered the back of Teagan's hand when Daphne touched it and he was sure she could feel them but he was past the point of caring anymore. Instead he gave her a bit a sad grin. "Hero mode? Hero mode is something I let anyone see," he told her as he took a step closer and brought his other hand up to her arm, caressing it lightly. He paused for a moment as his stomach dropped and his throat tightened. "You're not just anyone. Not to me."

Daphne just stared at him for a long moment, hanging frozen between conflicting emotions.
"Teagan..." She paused a moment, as if deciding how to end that sentence, and then finally brushed a kiss against his cheek. "To me either."
She drew away, and gave him a small nod. "Thank you."

"Uh, you're welcome," came his awkward reply. He cleared his throat and broke eye contact as he put his hands on his waist. The kiss had clearly confused him. "But, uh, what'd I do?"
